April 30, 2012 Dear Parents, Wow! I can’t believe how quickly the school year is winding down. I hate to see it come to an end. I really have enjoyed teaching your children. Field Trips: This Friday afternoon is our field trip to the Fire Station for the Life Safety House demonstration. The students learn a lot each year about fire safety by attending this. Our field trip last Friday to SUU to meet with our pen pals from East Elementary was a lot of fun. That has been a rewarding and learning experience for the students Second Grade Program: On Friday May 18th at 1:30 p.m., the Second Grade Students (all four classes) will put on an end-of–the year program for parents, family members, friends, and anyone who would like to attend. We hope you will be able to join us. Spelling: The spelling words this week are question words. We will be making a pop-up class book using them during the spelling center. Homework: Watch for homework to come home on Wednesday. Library: All library books need to be returned this week by Friday May 4th. Take Home Library: Take home library books need to be returned by Thursday May 3rd. Thanks! Reading Celebration: Just a reminder that the Reading Celebration will be held on Monday May 14th. Please have your child continue reading so he/she can earn a ticket to attend. Second Grade students need to read for 20 minutes a day, five times a week. Science: We are working on our plant unit. Thanks for sending stockings and buttons for our grass heads. Please send them for Monday if you haven’t yet. We will plant them on Monday and then we’ll eagerly await the first sprout. Birthday: We will celebrate McKenna's birthday on Thursday May 3rd. Field Day: The school-wide field day will be held on Monday May 21st. This is always a great day for the students.
