May 7, 2012 Dear Parents, The school year is almost over. I can’t believe it. It sure has passed quickly for me. We have had a super class this year! I am very impressed with the students. They worked hard and really progressed academically. I hate to move them on to 3rd grade. Second Grade Program: The second grade classes will be performing an end-of-the year program on Friday May 18th at 1:30. You are invited to attend. It should last around 45 minutes. Reading Parents: This is the last week that reading parents need to come. I sure appreciate all you’ve done throughout the year to help the students progress in their reading. We will still have centers next week but our daily schedule is getting chaotic for some days. Spelling: Watch for spelling words to come home today. The test will be on Thursday. Homework: Watch for homework to come home on Wednesday. Reading Celebration: Just a reminder that the PTA sponsored Reading Celebration is happening next Monday May 14th. There is only one more week of reading for students to earn their way to it. Your child needs to return the purple reading sheets each week so that we can mark reading completed. The children who don’t earn a ticket by reading, will be able to read in the reading room while the rest of the class attends the celebration. Library: Just a reminder that all library books should have been returned last week. Also, all take-home library books should have been returned last week. Field Day: Field day will be on Monday May 21st. Please have your child wear sunscreen. They may also wear a hat. We will be outside for most of the day. I could use some parent volunteers to take the students around to the different stations. Let me know if you might be able to help. I could use one parent in the morning and one in the afternoon. Last Day of School: Friday May 25th is the last day of school. School will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m. Science: We will complete our unit on plants this week and start on matter. Field Trip: Today, there was one more permission slip sent home for a field trip. On Tuesday May 22nd, we will be walking over to the new science center at SUU. We will have activities at the new Nature center and the greenhouse. This will work out well with our animals and pants’ units. Pictures on the blog: Visit our blog if you have not already done so.
