April 22, 2013

Dear Parents,

Field Trips:    The field trip to St. George last Friday was wonderful.  We were able to divide into four groups at the Tonaquint Nature Center where we learned about birds, observed the differences in trees, worked with tennis pros and learned about the beautiful plants in “The Garden” with the horticulturist Casey.        We also had a fabulous time at my parent’s farm where the students were able to see live farm animals, practice milking a fake cow, shake cream to make butter which they ate on bread, learn about wheat and grind some wheat into flour. The students were very well behaved.  It was a delight to go with them.

Dates to remember:

The week of May 7th – The last week                        of Reading Parents
April 25th – Bard’s Birthday Bash @SUU
May 6th – 2nd Grade Program 1:30
May 6th – take home library books need to be returned
May 3rd – Library Books are due back

Testing:  The second grades no longer need to do end-of-level testing for the state.  However, we will be giving a language and math assessment of our own to the students at the end of May so we can measure progress made.

Reading Parents:  Just a reminder that the week of May 6th – 9th  will be the last week of reading parents for the year.  Thank you so much for your dedicated help and service.  It has really helped the reading progress of the students.  We appreciate you.

Science:  We have planted some plants and will officially begin out unit on plants this week.

Birthday:  We will celebrate Isaac’s birthday on Tuesday.

Spelling:  Watch for spelling words to come home today. They are the words that contain ”oo” .  These spelling words either make the same vowel sound as in “zoo” or in “look”.  The test will be on Thursday.

Math:  We will begin measurement, work with fractions and review concepts learned thus far this year.
Math homework will come home on Wednesday.

P.E. Permission Slip:  Miss Taylor sent home a permission slip today for P.E. next week.  The students will be walking over the CHS track to run.  We have P.E. on Tuesday afternoon.  Please have your child wear good running shoes on this day.

It is a pleasure to teach your children. They are a great group!

Sincerely,
Brenda Haight
