February 11, 2013

Dear Parents,

Happy Valentine’s Day!

President’s Day Holiday:  There will be no school next Monday Feb. 18th  because of President’s Day.

Math:  We will continue with time, money, place value plus review the concepts learned thus far.

Spelling Bee:  The spelling Bee for South Elementary will be held on  Feb. 25th.

Spelling:  Watch for spelling words to come home today.
The test will be on Thursday.

Science Fair:  The South Elementary Science Fair will be held on Thursday March 21st.  Remember to you’re your child return the entry form by this Friday if they want to participate.  Rules, etc., will be sent home with those who are participating.

Language:  We will work with nouns, contractions and alphabetical order.

Grandparents Program:  Just a reminder that the program for our Grandparents will be today Monday February 11th at 1:30 in the school gym. Parents and family members are invited to attend as well.  The students have worked hard on songs, poems and a dance.  Help me assure your child that if their grandparent can’t come that it is okay.
Sometimes grandparents just can’t make it and that is fine.  Some have to work, some live too far away, and some have other responsibilities.  Although we’d like them to join us, we certainly understand.
Hopefully we’ll see you at the program.
Thanks for helping furnish refreshments.  Refreshments make the program nicer.  If there are any refreshments left over, we’ll save them and have them for our Valentine’s Party on the 14th.

Thanks for your help and support!

Sincerely,
Brenda Haight

Dear Parents,

Your children are great!  It’s a treat and an honor to be their teacher.

Math:  We will work with time, continue with money, place value plus review the concepts learned thus far.

Spelling:  The spelling words this week contain the adjacent vowel and silent e pattern.  Watch for spelling words to come home today.  The test will be on Thursday.

Science Fair:  The South Elementary Science Fair will be held on Thursday March 21st.  Registrations need to be in no later than Friday February 15th.  Your child can begin preparing for it by thinking of a question they would like to learn the answer to. The registration information will come home at the end of this week.

Valentine‘s Party:  Our class Valentine’s Party will be held on Thursday Feb. 14th .  Your child may bring his/her Valentines anytime but we won’t pass them out until that day.  I sent a list of the student’s names home today, Monday. Hopefully you received it.

Language:  We will work with contractions, the adjacent vowel rule and the silent e rule.

Grandparents Program:  Just a reminder that the program for our Grandparents will be next Monday February 11th at 1:30 in the school gym. Parents and family members are invited to attend as well.  The students are working hard on songs, poems and a dance.  They should have their parts memorized.  Please help me assure your child that if their grandparent can’t come that it is okay.   Sometimes grandparents just can’t make it and that is fine.  Some have to work, some live too far away, and some have other responsibilities.  Although we’d like them to join us, we certainly understand.
I’m sending home a food assignment today for our Grandparent’s program…(if  you are able to help).  Let me know if this is a problem for you.

Pretend Birthday:  We will celebrate Olivia’s pretend birthday on Friday February 10th.

Writing contest:  If you child wants to participate in the South Elementary writing contest, their story needs to be turned in by Feb. 8th.  A rubric was sent home a couple of weeks ago.

Spelling Bee:  Please have your child study the words that went home a couple of months ago for the spelling Bee.  It will be held on Feb. 25th. There will be a test held in the classroom the week before to determine who will represent our
class.

Computers/sharing:  We will have computers this Thursday so we won’t have sharing this week.

Thanks for your help and support!

Sincerely,
Brenda Haight

Dear Parents,

Science Fair:  The date for the science fair has been changed to Thursday March 21st instead of March 22nd.  I’d encourage your child to participate.  Information will be coming home.

Valentine’s Day Party:  We will have our class Valentine’s party on Valentines Day Feb. 14th in the afternoon.  I will send home a class list next week.  We have 21 students.

Math:  We will continue to work with money and start time as well as review the concepts learned thus far this year.

Language:  We will continue to work with prefixes and suffixes and work with contractions.

Reading:  I am impressed with how much reading the students are doing at home each week.  Reading each night for at least 20 minutes will have a great impact on the progress your child will make in reading.  Thanks so much for your help and encouragement in this area.

Grandparents Program:  We are working hard with our preparations for the Grandparents Program.  Parts are being sent home today.  Your child will be saying their part with 1 or 2 more children.  These parts need to be memorized by this Monday the 28th.  Thanks for your help with this.  We only have three weeks left but should be ready with no problem.  Please see that your child is here each day (unless he/she is sick).  We are finalizing our learning these next three weeks as well as finishing projects for the program.
Just a reminder that the program will be on Monday February 11th at 1:30 p.m. in the school gym.  Parents, family members and friends are welcome to come in addition to grandparents.  However, the focus of the program is on our grandparents.

Spelling Bee:  The South Elementary Spelling Bee will  be held on Feb. 25th.  If your child wants to participate, have them be practicing the words that went home a couple of months ago.  We’ll have a test in our class to see who will represent us.

Art:  Alisa Petersen helped the students with a fun map/art activity last Friday.  It was great.  Thanks Alisa!

Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,
Brenda Haight
